Used in conjunction with the i-TunneL® lighting control and monitoring system, the RS-485 Bus Cable is specifically designed for the arduous conditions common to the road tunnel environment. The strict specifications on shielding against electromagnetic interference and electrical noise ensure unsurpassed reliability. Coupled with its easy to install plug-and-play connectors, the cable allows the installer to quickly create an uncomplicated single layer communications network without any requirement for specialist engineers.
- Durable, single twisted pair cable
- Thermoplastic, halogen-free sheath
- High levels of EMI protection
- Developed specifically for hostile tunnel environments
- Industrial grade shielding
- Impedance and capacitance matched for RS-485 applications
- Suitable for use with the i-TunneL® plug-and-play systems
- Provides communications up to 4.8km* from the B-ScoutMaster and up to 1000* B-Scouts
- Single layer network, with only one hardware and one software protocol.
- No specialist engineers required
- Fast tool-free replacement of damaged cables without halting the control system
* - With the use of three repeater units
Example Topology
Standard single layer loop-in-loop-out network topology; Only one communications/hardware protocol throughout the whole installation.

Installation Considerations
The WRTL RS-485 data bus cable provides high levels of EMI protection, nevertheless separation between power and communications cables is considered good practise and should be achieved wherever possible. It is acceptable to run both the power and bus cables on the same tray work albeit clipped separately. Should the bus cable need to cross the power cable loom this should be done at right angles with spacing between. It is imperative that the bus is not run in close proximity to the radio redistribution cabling and certainly not fixed to the same cable tray.
Outer Sheath Specification
Polyolefinic based thermoplastic compound containing a fire retardant system that contributes to give the cable self-extinguishing properties without halogenic acids evolution; furthermore, toxic and corrosive gas emissions and smoke generation are particularly reduced. These characteristics make the compound suitable in all applications where the fire behaviour of the cables is of prime importance.
