Stela installations across the UK are saving Local Authorities an average of 55% of their energy consumption without the need to dim or switch off. This means that they are on track to achieve UK CO2 reduction targets well ahead of schedule.
Life cycle assessments of carbon emissions estimate significant further savings in CO2 due to the virtually maintenance free design of Stela. These savings come from a reduction in the fuel consumption of maintenance vehicles, which can be as much as 75%, and eliminating the need for replacements lamps and control gear.
Considering that in the 25 year life of a residential lighting installation of 30,000 luminaires, upwards of 300,000 replacement parts will not be required. Each of these replacement parts has an associated carbon footprint for manufacture and distribution so this aspect should not be ignored or under valued.
