WEEE directive lumicom
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
These directives aim to reduce the waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment and to improve the environmental performance of all those involved in the life cycle of such equipment.
This is being achieved by restricting the disposal of several toxic substances (e.g. lead, mercury, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyls - RoHS) and encouraging the responsible collection, disposal and recycling of equipment (WEEE).
WEEE becomes effective by August 2005 and RoHS by July 2006*. This means that producers will be required to demonstrate that they have appropriate measures for meeting the directives and have to achieve a series of demanding recycling and recovery targets.
WRTL is working actively to ensure that its products comply with the directives. A perfect example of this is the Arc lantern, which is completely recyclable with the sole exception of the gasket.
