This year’s awards saw a record number of entries for the 15 categories that seek to celebrate and acknowledge the industry’s best; providing designers the opportunity to attain the highest recognition for their skills, and rewarding innovations in lighting technology.
The presentation ceremony was held on Thursday 12 March at the London Hilton Hotel on Park Lane and was compered by Liverpool born John Bishop, a well-known figure on the comedy circuit whose TV credits include Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats.
Ray Molony, Editor of the EMAP publication Lighting who host the annual event, commented that the Awards have gained increased global recognition this year. “I am particularly pleased to see the sheer volume of entries from British designers working on global projects.”
After an initial review of the entries received, Ray added. “Our lighting designers are really punching above their weight in the international arena.
“Lighting has come a long way from some of the universally accepted monstrosities of the 1970’s and 80’s. Retailers and architects and property developers all demand and expect much higher standards than ever before.
“The lighting design awards recognise those individuals and organisations who take lighting to the next level.”
