Bus Repeater

Bus repeater

The repeater is designed and manufactured to operate with the i-TunneL® B-Scout system and will operate exclusively as part of the data-bus network.

Provided with plugs and sockets that mate directly with the i-TunneL® data-bus assemblies, the repeater simply plugs into the network at the appropriate point. Requiring only a standard 3A fused mains supply (usually from the tunnel UPS supply), the unit can be located either in a suitable distribution enclosure or up in the tunnel crown with the luminaires.

Key Features

Used in conjunction with the i-TunneL® lighting control and monitoring system, the RS-485 data-bus repeater is used to extend the capabilities of the communications network. Provided with the same plug and socket connections used on the tunnel luminaire series, the unit provides simple plug-and-play connection to the B-Scout system data-bus. With no set-up or commissioning requirements, the repeater offers true fit and forget benefits, providing long term reliability.

Features & Benefits

  • Extends i-TunneL® data-bus by 1.2km and/or 250 B-Scout units
  • Allows maximum data-bus use of 1000 B-Scouts at up-to 4.8km (3 repeaters max.)
  • Connects directly to i-TunneL® data-bus assemblies
  • No specialist engineers and no set-up required
  • IP65 housing suitable for locating in a variety of locations within the tunnel
  • Supplied complete with mounting brackets
  • Includes internal end-of-line resistors
  • Provides isolation between data-bus sections to 2kV
  • Bus inputs surge protected to 15kV ESD

Example Topology

The i-TunneL® system offers the simplest connection topology and offers a true single layer loop-in-loop-out network. Uniquely, only one software and one hardware protocol is used throughout the whole system. The repeaters allow the data-bus to be extended and are provided with the same plug and socket arrangement found on the luminaires.

No Repeaters

Without the need for any repeaters the data-bus network can control up to 250 lamps (via the B-Scout units) at a distance of up to 1.2km. Four of these buses are available from each B-ScoutMaster.

Repeater topology no repeaters

No Repeaters = up to 250 lamps @ 1.2km

With Repeaters

Each repeater extends the network for an extra 250 lamps and a further 1.2km. With a maximum of 3 repeaters, this allows up to 1000 lamps at 4.8km on each of the four data-buses emanating from the B-ScoutMaster.

Repeater topology with repeaters

1 No. Repeater = up to 500 lamps @ 2.4km
2 No.Repeaters = up to 750 lamps @ 3.6km
3 No.Repeaters = up to 1000 lamps @ 4.8km
